Vacuum Excavation

Vacuum Excavation, also known as soft digs, is a method used to locate, expose, and record the precise horizontal and vertical location of an underground utility. Vacuum excavation is recommended because it reduces cost and time required to locate utilities.

Soft Dig Process:

This fast and safe method begins by cutting small test holes into the ground surface at critical points along an underground utility’s path. The soil is then extracted using a high-pressure vacuum to safely expose the utility. Vacuum excavation is used to determine the horizontal and vertical position, size, condition, and material composition.

Benefits:

  • Provides an exact depth measurement
  • No mess involved, contents deposited in a holding tank
  • Safely exposes buried utilities
  • Avoids costly utility relocations
  • Eliminates potential damage and safety hazards
